Artist Statement
Told through a whimsical, childlike point of view, this concentration is an illustrated children's novel about the struggles of immigration. A family of three eggs are displaced from their own home and forced to immigrate somewhere they can settle down. After traveling to the Newland, however, the family finds themselves in an unwelcoming environment, not at all like what they heard. In order to survive, they sneak over to Newland and start a new life. After struggling to fit in and being thrown out of their home once again, they wander through town looking for a place to stay until they  they find a safe haven on the outskirts of town in eggtown.

Project Two

The Nose

october 2019 - january 2020
illustration
Artist Statement
This project is an illustrated interpretation of The Nose by Dmitri Shostakovich. The Nose is a fantastical Russian opera about a conceited noble who disrespects anyone below his rank. One day he wakes up only to find his nose has disappeared. He is belittled for not having a nose and is eventually humbled by the experience as the story takes us through a wild goose chase. The noble tries to reason with the police, strangers, and even the nose himself, really bringing to life the phrase: "looking down your nose".

Lune

may 2020 - june 2020

Artist Statement
For my senior project, I collaborated with students from theater conservatory to bring to life a story that was not able to play out in person. The seniors from theater had already written a short screenplay about love called Lune, but due to the pandemic they were not able to hold a showing. Instead, I illustrated the various scenes based on the actors and stage directions while the actors recorded voice overs for the script.
